Election interference is a ubiquitous phenomenon in over 90 percent of all elections worldwide and causes considerable distortions in some cases. And the number of targeted information and influence attacks on companies and organizations is increasing rapidly. The study published here provides a comprehensive overview of the topic of “election interference” and the associated risks and solutions for companies. The questions of why election interference is a problem for companies and whether the law can help companies are answered, as well as the question of countermeasures, security strategies and recommendations for action, especially for companies, as they must include election interference (including along global supply chains) in their risk analyses and translate them into strategic security concepts. Election interference is not a purely political phenomenon, but harbors numerous risks for companies, associations, managers and employees. Legislative and regulatory measures (e.g. DSA) have problems and gaps in implementation and enforcement and offer companies only limited protection.
